Find the particular solutions of the following equations subject to the given conditions.

Solution:
\(\frac{d y}{d x}\) = cos x
Integrating we get
y = ∫cos x dx = sin x + C
Given that when x = 0, y = 2
So 2 = C
∴ The particular solution is y = sin x + 2

(ii) \(\frac{d y}{d t}\) = cos2 y subject to y = \(\frac{\pi}{4}\) when t = 0.
Solution:
\(\frac{d y}{d t}\) = cos2 y
⇒ sec2 y dy = dt
∫sec2 dy = ∫dt
⇒ tan y = t + C
When t = 0, y = \(\frac{\pi}{4}\)
So tan \(\frac{\pi}{4}\) = C ⇒ C = 1
